The National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter — the Academy) announces that it has elected foreign members for the first time in its history.

Pursuant to Resolution No. 1 of the General Assembly dated 16 March 2026, distinguished world-leading scientists have been elected as foreign members of the Academy. This step aims to strengthen international scientific cooperation, integrate Kazakhstan’s scientific community into the global research landscape, and promote the exchange of advanced knowledge and technologies.

The following scholars have been elected as foreign members of the Academy:

Gennady Krasnikov — Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences. A leading scientist in the field of semiconductor device physics, micro- and nanoelectronics; specialist in the development of very large-scale integrated (VLSI) circuits.

Guo Huadong (郭华东) — PhD, Professor, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (PRC). A leading scientist in the field of artificial intelligence and spatiotemporal modelling; specialist in radar remote sensing and Earth big data.

Helmut Schober — PhD, Professor, Director General of the European Spallation Source (Sweden). A leading scientist in the field of nuclear science; specialist in neutron physics and neutron–matter interactions.

Mark C. Elliott — PhD, Professor, Vice Provost of Harvard University (USA). A leading sinologist specialising in the history and politics of China and Eurasia; expert in Inner Asia during the imperial period.

This decision represents an important step towards enhancing the international standing of Kazakhstan’s scientific community, expanding cooperation with leading research centres worldwide, and advancing joint research.

The Academy will continue to develop international scientific cooperation and strengthen the country’s research potential.
