Seeking Solutions: Reducing Conductor and Ground Wire Vibration in 220 kV OHL

The National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan announces the need to find a solution to the following technological challenge:

Investigation of the causes of vibration damper failures and development of methods to reduce conductor and overhead ground wire vibration.

On 220 kV double-circuit overhead transmission lines (hereinafter – the studied OHL), significant issues have been recorded, caused by vibration of conductors and the OPGW fiber-optic communication line (hereinafter – the overhead ground wire).

Wind loads lead to both low-frequency and high-frequency vibrations, resulting in the mass failure of vibration dampers. Consequently, this accelerates the wear of conductors, the overhead ground wire, and fastening elements, which reduces the reliability of the studied OHL.
