The international conference "ENERGY FRONTIERS: Science as a Driver of Technological Growth" was held.

On May 2, 2025, the International Conference "ENERGY FRONTIERS: Science as a Driver of Technological Growth" was held in Almaty. It was organized by the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan jointly with the Kazakh Institute of Oil and Gas (KIOG). The event provided a significant platform for dialogue between science, industry, and the international expert community on the future of energy, innovation, and sustainable development. Kurishbayev, President of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, opened the conference, emphasizing the role of science as a systemic tool for technological progress and the importance of setting clear priorities in the development of research. In his speech, he emphasized the need to build sustainable ties between all participants in the scientific and innovation ecosystem—scientists, engineers, government, and business. Kenesary A. Zh., Deputy Director for Geology, Development, and R&D Projects at the Kazakh Institute of Oil and Gas (KIOG), delivered a keynote address on KIOG's current and prospective R&D projects in geology, field development, and digital technologies. He presented a number of initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency of developing hard-to-recover reserves, digitalizing engineering processes, and implementing modern solutions for the oil and gas sector. A memorandum of cooperation between KIOG and the National Academy of Sciences was also signed during the plenary session, aimed at consolidating efforts in scientific research and technology transfer. International and Kazakhstani experts participated in the conference, including representatives from The Pennsylvania State University (USA), Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia), Baker Hughes (Germany), SLB (Schlumberger), CT Solutions LLP, the Institute of Polymer Materials and Technologies, Kalamkas-Khazar Operating LLP, and others. Topics discussed included the development of hard-to-recover reserves (HTRR) and enhanced oil recovery; digital methods for interpreting well logging data and hydrodynamic modeling; microstructural rock studies using high-precision X-ray micro-CT imaging; the development of new technologies for redistributing filtration flows; water shutoff works and environmentally friendly solutions; current industry challenges and mechanisms for funding scientific research. The conference included a ceremony presenting letters of gratitude to Zholtayev Geroy Zholtaevich and Yeskozha Bazar Atashevich on behalf of JSC NC KazMunayGas for their contribution to the development of the oil and gas industry, as well as the signing of a memorandum between KING JSC and NEWTECH Distribution LLP. Following the forum, proposals will be formulated to strengthen scientific and industrial cooperation, support promising research, and create conditions for the commercialization of scientific developments that meet the challenges of the modern energy sector.
