A research center for international relations has beed opened at the National Academy of Sciences of The Republic of Kazakhstan
On 25 February 2026, in Almaty, as part of the 80th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the official opening of the Research Center for International Relations took place, along with the presentation of the six-volume scientific and analytical series “Ortaq Asia Muraty.”
The primary objective of the event is to institutionally systematize research in the field of international relations, enhance the quality of scientific analysis on Central Asia, and elevate regional intellectual dialogue to the level of sustainable scientific cooperation. Additionally, the initiative aims to create conditions under which the state can make strategically sound and effective decisions based on the systematic, independent, and comprehensive development of scientific thought.
At the ceremonial session, remarks were delivered by A. Kurishbayev, Chairman of the Board – President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter – the Academy); A.A. Arenova, Head of the Political Group of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty; Vlastimil Samek, Head of the United Nations Department of Global Communications Representative Office; and R.A. Alshanov, Rector of Turan University and President of the Association of Universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan. All speakers emphasized the significance of the Center. The event was also attended by consuls and diplomatic representatives of the People’s Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republic of Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of international organizations, members of the academic community, and leading experts.
As part of the event, publications included in the six-volume scientific and analytical series “Ortaq Asia Muraty” were presented: D.K. Zhekenov — monograph “Ortaq Asia Muraty”; A.E. Mukhametzhan — “The Kyrgyz Republic”; G.A. Apsattarova — “The Republic of Uzbekistan”; O.A. Baisalbek — “Turkmenistan”; B.B. Sarieva — “The Republic of Tajikistan”; and F.A. Kydyrbek — “China–Central Asia Relations: Analysis and Chronicle.”
In his opening remarks, A. Kurishbayev подчеркнул, that this initiative represents a significant step toward the future and noted that scientific thought can contribute to the adoption of strategically important state decisions only if it develops systematically, independently, and in depth. He further stressed that the Center should not be limited to purely theoretical research, but should function as a scientific and practical platform generating concrete recommendations for the state and society based on the analysis of real economic and social processes. The Center is expected to unite the potential of young researchers and experienced specialists, while conducting authoritative research at both regional and international levels.
It was noted that the Center’s work will serve as a foundation for strategic research, strengthening scientific dialogue among Central Asian countries and contributing to the region’s sustainable development. It will also represent an important step in advancing not only Kazakhstan’s scientific potential but also a culture of intellectual freedom and evidence-based decision-making.
The event became a clear example of institutional initiatives aimed at elevating regional scientific cooperation to a new level. Further cooperation was agreed upon in the areas of joint project development, exchange of experience, and strengthening of scientific ties.
