"Strong regional science – Strong region"
To implement the instructions of the Head of State, outlined in his Address to the Nation, regarding the transition from a raw materials-based economy to the development of advanced processing, ensuring the rational use of water resources, introducing digital technologies into the management of economic sectors, and strengthening the role of regional science in the country's socio-economic development, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as the Academy) will hold an off-site meeting of the Academy's Presidium on May 5-6, 2026, in Kyzylorda, Kyzylorda Region.
The meeting will discuss current issues related to the development of regional science and its role in socio-economic development, improving the effectiveness of science by focusing on solving technological challenges facing industry and regional problems. The contribution of science to water resource management, addressing environmental issues, implementing advanced technologies and developments, the efficient use of natural resources, and developing healthcare, environmental sustainability, and the agro-industrial complex will also be considered.
Participants in the discussion of pressing regional issues will include: President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan A.K. Kurishbayev, Akim of the Kyzylorda Region N.M. Nalibayev, representatives of government agencies and departments, academics, heads of universities and research institutes, business representatives, and leading scientists.
The meeting will address priority areas of scientific and technological development in the region, including water management, agro-industrial complex, geological and mining industries, ecology, raw material processing, and human capital development.
Key points and discussions:
Water resources management – development and implementation of scientific solutions to ensure water supply in the region, including groundwater use, development of monitoring, modeling, and decision support systems, as well as the implementation of intelligent water resource management systems;
Presentation of the "DeepBas" project, which is considered the foundation of a domestic intelligent water resource management system. Development of the agro-industrial complex – introducing drought- and salt-tolerant crops, developing rice cultivation, increasing the efficiency of irrigated agriculture, and implementing biotechnology in agriculture;
Environmental sustainability – addressing the problems of the Aral Sea region, combating land degradation, soil salinization, and rational use of natural resources;
Scientific support for processing – developing technologies for the deep processing of agricultural, mineral, and man-made raw materials to increase the added value of products;
Mining and resources – comprehensive processing of mineral raw materials, implementation of environmentally friendly technologies, and efficient use of the region's resource potential;
Digitalization and science – developing decision support systems, developing scientific infrastructure, and training personnel for the region.

Foresight session: A strategic session will be held on May 5, aimed at aligning scientific research with the real needs of the regional economy and business.
Exhibition of Achievements: On May 6, an exhibition will showcase innovative developments by Russian scientists ready for industrial implementation.
Discussion of current issues related to the development of regional science and its role in socioeconomic development, as well as enhancing the effectiveness of science through focusing on addressing industrial technological challenges and regional problems. The meeting will also examine the contribution of science to water resource management, environmental issues, the implementation of advanced technologies and developments, the efficient use of natural resources, and the development of healthcare, environmental sustainability, and the agro-industrial complex.
Following the meeting, a resolution and a joint work plan will be prepared for the promising and effective development of water resource management, ecology, and the processing and food industries in the Kyzylorda region.
